After the Greek band The Forminx in which Vangelis played broke up, Vangelis formed the band Aphrodite's Child together with singer Demis Roussos and drummer Lucas Sideras.
After they went to Paris Greece's political situation changed radically and they were unable to return. They recorded a song (Rain and Tears) inspired on a canon by Pachelbell and released it on single. It became a huge success. In total 3 albums got recorded, with big successes in the European charts.
After the album 666, which was pretty much Vangelis (Evengelio Odyssey Papathanassiou) dominated the group split up and both Demis Roussos (Artemios Ventouris Roussos) and Vangelis started their solo careers
