In my opinion this was Vangelis best work outside of Aphrodite’s Child as some of the same drama that made 666 such a success can be found here including the opening track which features the English Chamber Choir. It’s a rather bizarre piece utilizing the female lead, yet very majestic and powerful. So Long Ago, So Clear features of course Yes vocalist Jon Anderson. sounding as ‘Angelic’ as ever against the backdrop of cosmic keys. Part two of Heaven and Hell starts of with a typical Greek melody that builds and develops sequentially, then suddenly enters classical avant garde territory once again with percussion and strange voices closing the piece perfectly with a lush keyboard symphony. Nice stuff.
