Like Supertramp, 10cc’s later work suffered from fan and critical disregard. Meanwhile sold well in Japan and Europe but flopped in their native UK although the tour for the album was a success.

Meanwhile is not the strongest 10cc album by any means, in fact the only material here that comes close to the glory days of classic 10cc are Welcome to Paradise which was released as a single and the witty Charity Begins at Home. The rest of the disc doesn’t really go anywhere, perhaps due to the production and problems in the studio with producer Gary Katz (Steely Dan). The late Jeff Porcaro and David Paich from Toto both play on Meanwhile as well as Michael Landau, Dr John and legendary bassist Freddie Washington, but even these seasoned musicians didn’t really add anything special to the album.

I recommend Meanwhile, only if you have the earlier 10cc and Godley & Crème albums/ CD’s. Meanwhile is not a bad record, it just could have been much better.
