I've really enjoyed SJS' previous album The Unlikely Event (2021), clearly one of my Top 5 albums of 2021. I was very excited when I heard that A Sequence Of Mistakes was coming out and, gladly, it's even better than I had hoped it would be.
A great album indeed. Compared to its predecessor, I would describe it as ''Evolution with continuity''. All the qualities I enyoyed with TUE are still present. In good part the songs are mellower on A Sequence Of Mistakes and Stawman's singing is calmer than before. Also, he is not using his falsetto as much, but when he does it's always in a very tastefull way. This being said, there are still some powerfull and intense moments on this album. For example, one of the songs (''Pulling Saturn'' featuring wordless vocals) somewhat reminds me of Peter Gabriel's Passion soundtrack (i.e. Zaar).
What makes A Sequence Of Mistakes such a great album is the level of emotion and creativity included in every song. I am truly moved by all of them. Add to that first-class production, excellent musicianship, outstanding singing, and you have an album that you will cherish for years to come.
By far this is my favorite album of 2024. Do yourself a favour and check it out on SJS's Bandcamp Page. His two previous albums can also be found there and are also excellent.
Highly recommended indeed.
