This fan club cd is a collection of official and unofficial songs by the band, drawn from live settings in various locations, it is not as if Dream Theater needs more live recordings. That being said, this cd, while not essential, is of a very good recording quality, and captures some great live energy by the band with a fully active crowd.
Dream Theater rarely will disappoint their fans in a live setting, and Taste the Memories invites fans through some revisiting of older songs like: Under a Glass Moon, Take the Time, Puppies on Acid, and the full-length version of A Change of Season, as well as some others. I wouldn't consider this an essential DT recording, unless you are a completist, or happen to enjoy hearing the bands vibrant live shows to bring back the memories.
There are some songs entirely unique apart from the bands discography as well: Moonbubbles, is a nearly 10 minute duet of John Myung on bass, and John Petrucci on guitar, something I have never heard by this band before. Also is a short rendition of the theme from Mission Impossible.
