A four CD box set - featuring 70 unreleased tracks - commemorating the 50th anniversary of Zappa's infamous 1970 Mothers' line-up (including Mark Volman and Howard Kaylan, George Duke, Ian Underwood, Jeff Simmons and Aynsley Dunbar. This line-up lasted approximately 7 months.
These names public now, but at the time they performed under aliases to skirt contractional limitations of performing under their own names. The lineup ran from May 1970 through Jan 71 when Jeff Simmons quit the band during the making of the 200 Motels movie.
Features unheard studio sessions from Trident Studios with legendary engineer Roy Thomas Baker, and historical live performances mostly captured by Zappa’s own tape recorder.
