Piero Ranalli is a very talented multi-instrumentalist. On his latest album he plays all instruments (i.e. guitar - bass -synth) except for the drums. Yet again on his solo project Unimother 27, Ranalli is assited by the dynamic drumming of Mr. Fist.
Unimother 27's music has been describe as being Instrumental Psych Rock (or even Kraut Rock). Having reviewed the project's previous album (Frozen Information (2015)) I found that the music was in good part more melodic than experimental. This is still occasionally the case with Fiore Spietato but compared to it's predecessor, this album is clearly more raw and intense. All the tracks are mid-length to long, clocking from nearly 8 minutes to more than 14 minutes. Most of the music is dominated by Ranalli's lead guitar play (very well supported by the other instruments), the synthetisers sometimes being more to the front.
I would qualify the music on Fiore Spietato as Retro Instrumental Psych Rock, sometimes leaning on the melodic or bluesy side of the spectre, but mostly being powerfull and (at times) experimental. The musical performances are all excellent and the album's production is very good, giving Fiore Spietato a ''live in the studio'' feel.
I can only highly recommend this excellent album to fans of intense and raw (yet also melodic) guitar music. Cooll stuff!!
