at the pier is an appertizer for the Nosound 2013 forthcoming release Afterthoughts (an album I will review shortly). It offers two songs not on the following album, and an alternative version of the track "Two Monkeys", so it is the ideal companion to Afterthoughts.
The two first songs on the album feature ex Porcupine Tree drummer Chris Maitland that also plays on Afterthoughts. They pretty much offer what is expected from Nosound, some very melancholic and dreamy music with Giancarlo Erra's soft and delicate vocals. They do not venture very far from what Nosound has previously done, but I consider them to be some of the band's best songs ever. The last track is a stripped down affair, and concludes this short EP in great fashion.
By itself I do not know if at the pier is a must have for the casual fan, but those very much into the band (and planning to purchase Afterthoughts) will certainly want to own this one.
