Any progger searching for an album filled with haunting sadness, mellow yet terrific compositions with a strong emphasis on classic orchestrations and beautiful arrangements, shall look no further.
Some of the best solo songs by this historic personality in progressive music can be found in Fireships.
Peter Hammil returns to his most introspective and melancholic side in this enigmatic and enchanting release. One of the things that stands out immediately while listening to Fireships is the innate capacity of Peter Hammil to compose beautiful harmony songs with powerful impact in the listener's soul.
This is one of those albums that I can give repeated listens and not get tired, for it is really touching, calm and plain beautiful.
The excellent use of the orchestrations in perfect communion with Peter's warm voice, the simple rhythms with meaningful transparency, the instruments personal touch in each of the songs, all driving the listener to immerse in the meadows of calmness. This is really a must have for all fans of this gentleman.
The album's structure most remind me of David Sylvian's Secrets of the Beehive, for it comprehends the same kind of approach and music deliverance, even if in different style.
I dare to repeat myself, just to remind you how beautiful this is!
