There has been a lot of covers albums coming out lately. A few are pretty nice, but most are very average or even mediocre. This is not the case with Covered Mirror Vol. 1 by Australian band Unitopia.

What I particularly like about this album is that Unitopia really tried to reinvent the songs they cover, but doing it while still remaining faithfull to the original versions. "Even in the Quietest Moments" by Supertramp is a great example of this, the song being easily recognisable, but it is given an aboriginal flavor that really lifts the song to other hights. Also the album does not only feature obvious choices, but also lesser known tracks (and acts) and the songs picked are all very good..

Unitopia have an excellent catalogue of albums of their own music. I hope this great album will introduce many Prog fans to this underrated band and give them the craving of checking out their back catalogue.

Covered Mirror Vol. 1 gets my highest recommendation indeed!!!!! Hopefully there is a Vol. 2 coming soon.

Bonus tracks of this album can be purchased at the band's website.
