The first official recording of Barock Project is easily reviewed. Unfortunately.

The band made a remarkable self-titled demo on 2005 which earned great reviews throughout the prog world. All the six tracks of the demo are included in this new release. The remaining five tracks are from the unofficial DVD published the same year.

Having seen the DVD, it showed great improvisational skills of the keyboard player Luca Zabbini and I can't but wonder, why the band hasn't made new material which would have shown his abilities in full force.

The third song “Eclissi” is still one of the best prog compositions of this decade and allthough I did say on my eralier review that "the band has even dared to use simple and beautiful melodies which are too often forgotten in modern & technical orientated prog" there are maybe too many of them this time.

But then the positive things: The unfinished sound of the demo is not present, obviously. The band plays well together and the biggest improvement is that the singer Luca Pancaldi has improved enormously.

So if you are a sucker for well played and beautiful Italian semi-prog, this is definately your pick.
