Well once again another Strawbs North American tour that bypasses our lovely Twin Cities of Minneapolis- St. Paul. Maybe one day I’ll get to see one of my favorite bands, but it won’t be this year. In the meantime, I still can refer to the bands amazing catalog of music, for which Ghosts stands out as one of their jewels.
Opening with the three part title track Ghosts is classic Strawbs, harkening back to the Hero and Heroine album, as does Starshine/ Angel Wine. Where Do You Go (When You Need A Hole To Crawl In) offers a calypso flavored tune and The Life Auction starts off with some creepy sounding piano and weird vocalizations reminding me of some ELO’s early experiments. Grace Darling closes the album on a high note with beautiful choral arrangements and a positive message.
I can’t say enough about the Strawbs that you haven’t already heard or read about elsewhere. An incredible band that has aged well and for this listener the perfect mix of folk and progressive music’s.
