This is on my top 10 list for the year 2000. This is a comeback album that has a great story. Kerry Livgren, one time guitarist, keyboard player and songwriter for Kansas offered to provide the group with material for its forthcoming album. He presented them with a group of demos and they picked the material, oftentimes startling Livgren with their choices. Livgren joins the band on keyboards and guitars as well helping with the production. Onetime bassist Dave Hope also pitches in. This CD opens with the very strong Icarus II. II tells the story of World War II pilots and this song is dedicated to those who fought in the war. A fantastic track worthy of its name. Other highlights of the disc are Myriad, Byzantium, and The Coming Dawn. Some of the songs are in the blues vein but all are worthy efforts. This is a must have for any fan of Kansas.
