Good news. I have made it very easy now to build Best Of Year lists.

After you are logged on - select My Lists from the menu and then choose Best of Year Builder. Follow the simple instructions that appear. Please let me know what you think of this new feature!

The Best of Year designations help you to keep track of what albums you liked most for any given year. As the years and decades move on, it is easy to forget if you liked something. Your best of year list can serve as a memory jog - to remind you of something so that you might think to listen to it again.

Your Best of Year selections are totaled with others selections to form the ProGGnosis Best Of Year listings which can draw your attention to something new to try on the recommendations of others.

Please build up your lists to share and help us all.

IAN ANDERSON TO RELEASE A CLASSICAL COMPILATION OF
JETHRO TULL: THE STRING QUARTETS
OUT 3/24/17 VIA THE END RECORDS/BMG

IAN ANDERSON TO TOUR THE U.S. MAY 26-JUNE 1

PLEDGE PRE-ORDER AVAILABLE NOW
FULL ALBUM DETAILS ENCLOSED

Ian Anderson, John O’Hara, and the Carducci Quartet are set to release “Jethro Tull - The String Quartets,” a collection of 12 re-imagined Tull classics, allowing Tull fans and classical music connoisseurs to enjoy the band’s vast catalog in a new way.

"Aquafugue (Aqualung)" for example, starts with the recognizable six note theme before continuing to follow the rules of a fugue. A subject, counter subject, and an accompanying counterpoint all alternate between the tonic and dominant keys. "Loco (Locomotive Breath)" begins with a cello cadenza inspired by the writing of J.S. Bach, an influential composer in Jethro Tull history. Other Tull favorites round out the tracklisting, such as "Farm, the Fourway (Farm on the Freeway),” which starts with a violin cadenza drawn from the recognizable harmonic progression of the song, and "In the Past (Living in the Past)," which opens with the famous 5/4 time riff that helped make the song successful.

Says Anderson: “There were some songs rather special to me which featured the string quartet such as ‘A Christmas Song,’ ‘Reasons For Waiting’ and ‘Wond'ring Aloud.’ These were my first experiences of working with a quartet. John [O'Hara, keyboardist for Ian] came up with a few suggestions of his own which presented challenges. All had an intimacy and presence which I looked forward to recapturing...."

O'Hara “felt a responsibility to delve deeper and offer a new imagining of each piece. An orchestrator’s job is to arrange and compose a new version of an existing work. However, I also felt a responsibility to the Jethro Tull listeners who cherish this material and may not welcome a radical rendition of a beloved song. My ambition was to create a thought-provoking album that remains true to Ian's compositions.”

Jethro Tull - The String Quartets will be available in the USA on March 24th, 2017 via The End Records/BMG. The album is now available for pre-order on Pledge Music at http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/jethro-tull-string-quartets/updates?ignore_id=78188,

Robert Alan Krieger, born January 8, 1946, in Los Angeles, is a musical performer and The Doors guitarist. He attended UCLA. “The first music I heard that I liked was Peter and the Wolf. I accidentally sat and broke the record (I was about seven). Then I listened to rock ‘n’ roll – I listened to the radio a lot – Fats Domino, Elvis, The Platters.

“There was lots of classical music in my house. My father liked march music. There was a piano at home. I studied trumpet at ten, but nothing came of it. Then I started playing blues on the piano? no lessons though. When I was fifteen, I started playing guitar. I used my friend’s guitar. I didn’t get my own until I was sixteen. It was a Mexican flamenco guitar. I took flamenco lessons for a few months. I switched around from folk to flamenco to blues to rock ‘n’ roll.

“Records got me into the blues. Some of the newer rock ‘n’ roll, such as the Paul Butterfield Blues Band. If it hadn’t been for Butterfield going electric, I probably wouldn’t have gone rock ‘n’ roll.

I didn’t plan on rock ‘n’ roll. I wanted to learn jazz; I got to know some people doing rock ‘n’ roll with jazz, and I thought I could make money playing music. In rock ‘n’ roll you can realize anything that you can in jazz or anything. There’s no limitation other than the beat. You have more freedom than you do in anything except jazz.

“In The Doors we have both musicians and poets, and both know of each other’s art, so we can effect a synthesis. In the case of Tim Buckley or Dylan you have one man’s ideas. Most groups today aren’t groups. In a true group all the members create the arrangements among themselves.”

I have displayed a small blue diamond next to the release name when the item was received as a promotional item.

So far this diamond appears for promos on:
  • the release detail page itself.
  • the search results pages.

it has not been done on the home page grids/lists.

Two ways to see this: go to advanced search and
search Results where Releases added to the ProGGnosis Database on: '6/6/2017'

Thank-you for the correction, Duncan,
I have made the changes you identified.

Hi

Very pleased to see John Hackett Band's forthcoming release 'We Are Not Alone' is already listed - https://www.proggnosis.com/Release/50885 :-)

Alas, there is an error on the listing, the label got it wrong on the press release. I'm the drummer with the band, also did the production and final master/delivery!

CD1 listing should be:
  • Take Control Parts 1 & 2
  • Never Gonna Make A Dime
  • Blue Skies Of Marazion
  • Summer Lightning
  • Queenie And Elmo’s Perfect Day
  • Castles
  • Ossian’s Lament
  • Jericho
  • Winds Of Change

  • CD2 track 11 is called 'Mr. Magnolia' rather than 'Continental Quilt' as listed.

    Thanks!

    Thanks Oleg.

This was because the Release Year was listed as 2017 and there was a release history for 2018.
so the software figured the entry in release history must be a reissue.

I corrected the release year to be 2018.

No I don't think the it is correct to call it a reissue when the dates are only a few days or weeks or even months apart.
    This seldom happens fortunately...

Oh, so simple. I didn't notice it.
By the way, do you think it's correct when an album released in digital and on CD at different dates is marked as reissue on the latter?

e.g. Minor Masterpiece by Colin Tench Project
