The Trio Of Stridence came into existence back in early 2002, during a jam session of the following musicians - Alex Masi (guitar), Jeffrey Allan (bass), Paul Marangoni (drums) after which they persued a recorded effort called Pastrami Standards (released in 2005).

In the summer of 2010, Paul Marangoni began work on a second CD, Auditur Periculosum which was subsequently released in Jan 2013.

The constant in The Trio of Stridence is dummer Paul Marangoni. He began drumming at the age of 13.  He is also the leader of the band Jazz Martyrs.  Marangoni writes:

"I was initially inspired by the music and drumming of The Beatles, The Who, Cream, Badfinger, The Raspberries, Boston, Chicago, Led Zeppelin, Journey, Rush, Van Halen, etc. As my understanding and skills grew, he became interested in bands like Genesis, Yes, King Crimson, Brand X, Jethro Tull, Bruford, UK, and Frank Zappa.

Eventually, I found myself interested in (or obsessed with) music with more improvisational aspects. I found myself listening to the Pat Metheny Group, Allan Holdsworth, Weather Report, Jean Luc Ponty, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, John McLaughlin, Stanley Clarke, Return To Forever, Jeff Beck, Jaco Pastorius, Tony Williams, etc.

In turn, this lead to a new appreciation for the music of Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Bill Evans, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, etc.

Although I was self-taught at first, I eventually studied privately and worked out of the standard books, such as "Syncopation" and "Stick Control", as well as more recent classics like Gary Chaffee's series of books. I found the study of polyrhythms and metric-modulation very interesting and Gary's books are the cream of the crop in that area. More recently, I've been working through John Riley's books and they're really transforming my playing for the better.

Some bands and artists I've worked with include: The Trio of Stridence, Freddie Curci, Alex Masi, The Brothers Dimm, Looks Like Rain, Janeen Leah, Andie Duncan, Andy Curran, Warren Toll, FM, Zappacosta, The Works, Adrian Davison, David Gibson, and Coney Hatch"
