Atlantis was a powerhouse German rock ensemble formed in late 1972 following the initial breakup of the legendary Kraut-prog bandFrumpy. The group was centered around the unmistakable, soulful voice of Inga Rumpf and the keyboard mastery of Jean-Jacques Kravetz.

While their predecessor, Frumpy, was firmly rooted in complex progressive rock, Atlantis shifted toward a more polished, rhythm-heavy blend of blues-rock, funk, and soul, infused with the high-level musicianship of the Hamburg scene. Because of their significant progressive pedigree—and the occasional inclusion of jazz-fusion and symphonic textures in their arrangements—they are an essential Prog Related - Blues Rock addition to the database.

The band's early lineup was a true German "supergroup," featuring guitarists Frank Diez (Armageddon) and Rainer März (Marz, Jeronimo, Schoenherz), alongside the incredible Curt Cress, one of the most prolific drummers in progressive rock history (Snowball, Passport, Orange Peel, Triumvirat, Saga, Lucifer's Friend, Panarama). Over the course of five studio albums, the band evolved from heavy blues explorations to a more commercial soul-rock sound, finally disbanding in 1976.

While they moved toward soul and funk, the presence of Jean-Jacques Kravetz ensured that Hammond organ and Mellotron remained key parts of their early sound, maintaining a strong link to the progressive community.
