Legacy Pilots is a contemporary symphonic progressive rock collective based in Hamburg, Germany, founded in 2018. The project is the primary creative vehicle for composer, bassist, and keyboardist Frank Caruso (often credited in the European rock scene as Franky R.).
Rather than operating as a traditional static band, Legacy Pilots functions as a highly collaborative studio hub. Caruso writes the foundational compositions and arrangements, subsequently recruiting an elite, rotating cast of internationally renowned progressive rock musicians to provide vocals, lead guitars, and drum tracks. The project's overarching musical philosophy is rooted in the classic 1970s symphonic rock tradition (Genesis, Yes, Kansas), modernized through pristine contemporary production techniques and AOR-inflected melodic hooks.
The collective's roster of recurring collaborators reads like a veritable "who's who" of the modern progressive rock pantheon. Frequent contributors include members of Marillion (Steven Rothery, Pete Trewavas), Arena and Lonely Robot (John Mitchell), Styx (Todd Sucherman), and elite session/touring drummers such as Craig Blundell and Marco Minnemann.
Legacy Pilots debuted with the album Aviation in 2018, establishing a rapid, consistent release schedule of highly polished symphonic rock albums that have garnered significant acclaim within the contemporary progressive rock community.
