review by: MarcKing Crimson is one of my all time favorite bands. I got into KC in an untypical period: the eighties. In their previous incantations of the late sixties to the mid seventies, I was not interested in Prog yet. I bought Discipline in 81 and was blown away by the creativeness and energy in that music. I enjoyed as much, if not more, the next two albums from that period. I also went backward through their preceding efforts, liked most of them a lot (Islands is not my cup of tea) but my first love remainded my strongest.

When Thrak came out in 95, I bought it immediately. I tried and tried to like it but even though part of it I enjoyed, as a whole this was a cd I basicly stopped putting in the player after the first few spins. Same goes for The Construktion of Light (2000) and now, after a few weeks of listening to The Power to Believe, I can say it will follow the same path.

It's not that these three albums are bad, the problem is that, except for what I would call a few cosmetic changes, KC seems to be reworking the same 4 or 5 songs over and over again. In my opinion this is even more evident with Robert Fripp's playing. He is still a great performer, but his creative juices seemed to have "jellowed" completely in the last ten years. As a guest musician on other people's work (for example his collaborations wit David Sylvian) Fripp can add incredible energy to what would possibly be an average song. But as the main creative force in a group, I honestly think he has nothing left to say.
