Reviews

review by: NunoYear 2000...more than 30 years after mankind being blessed with first apearances of progressive music, you can still be really amazed about some releases of this kind of music.
To be true, this was one heck of an year in terms of Prog...Flower Kings, Ayreon, Symphony X, White Willow and many many other bands have put out great music...and Spock´s Beard are no exception. In fact, this V (dispite its cheesy name) can, in many aspects, top all progressive albums in recent years.
In my opinion, this record manages to absorb the true meaning of new progressive music and achieves a state of pure grace.
It seems that, for a long time, Spock´s Beard have been preparing us for this, for their jump into a new level of achieveness; as I now consider that they may well be the prog headers of the new millenium .
Even if in different times and contexts, this album can be considered in the same category of freshness as Gentle Giant´s Octopus, Marillion´s Misplaced Childhood or Genesis Foxtrot, revealing and releasing...
Every music has its own mixture of styles and approaches and when merging the album as a whole, the result is a round trip to Prog wonderland.
The two opus : At the end of the day and The great nothing are simply amazing in terms of rythm change and input of classic and sometimes odd variations, they work as voyages through musical landscapes of great contrast.
Thoughts, part II is a heavy Gentle Giant experience, very well performed, mixing classic instruments that really add grandious style.
All on a sunday seems to be sung by Ian Anderson (Songs from the wood phase), you just miss the flute...
Goodbye to yesterday , is the most popish mellow style music here, nevertheless quality stands.
Now the million dollar question...Do Spock´s Beard dare to top this??? Does anyone out there??? C´mon you guys, time to exceed perfection...!!!
