Centric Jones is the duo of Chris Fournier (Fonya) and Tobe London. The duo joined in 2007 and released their first cd “Foreign tea” in 2007.
On The Antikythera Method, their second album they give a softer space rock sound. While their first album had a heavier progrock sound, this is more melodic lightweight stuff. The 12 tracks are all very melodic and there is used much sampling and synthesizers. Chris Fournier’s heavier guitar riffs may recall the Fonya days. Tobe London’s drums sounds like a synthetic drum machine. There is, however, not much on this album that is neither original not innovative and I cannot say this is a step forward. More than half of the tracks are instrumentals and have pretty much the same sound. Some tracks were even approaching new age music and almost got me falling asleep.
Contributions by Laurie Larson who gives dreamy vocals on 5 tracks. Steve Unruh helps out on violin while Tessa Anderson is adding vocals. A reference may be Peter Fallowell’s Multifuse and that of later day’s Tangerine Dream . There are also some Ozric references found.
The cd may be suitable as background music.
Nice Roger Dean like cover.
