Reviews

review by: progdog

This is the italian band’s 4th release; an eclectic, adventurous opus in 12 parts. Daal is a union of well known Italian musicians as Alfio Costa on keyboards (Tilion, Prowlers, Colossus Project) and David Guidoni on drums and percussion (Taproban, Nuova Era, Aries, Doracor, Gallant Farm)

Daal is not a mainstream Italian progband; their music is, however, based on experimentation and free improvisation. The 12 pieces give at times a dark kind of Magma meets Goblin feel. There are also pieces that touch the classical and electronic (early Tangerine Dream) era (track 6 + 8).

Among the guests on this album are Ettore Salati on guitars(The Watch), Bobo Aiolfi on bass (Tilion, Prowlers), Alessandro Papotto on winds (Banco).  Cello and violin are provided by Chiara Alberti and Sylvia Trabucco (Høstsonaten).

Dodecahedron” is an instrumental concept album that grows for each listen. It’s a opus that is quite hard to categorize as the compositions vary from progressive rock to classical to electronic to avant-garde. After having listen to this a few times, this reviewer is impressed of the very high level of mucicianship and creativity shown. Highly recommended for proggers into the more demanding kind of progmusic.
