Reviews

review by: MJBrady This is the 4th official studio release by this top notch Swedish progressive metal band.  While the band seems to remain a hint outside the bigger names of the truly progressive metal bands in terms of popularity, it is fully apparent to the bands' long time fans that they indeed are at the top of the game when considering what progressive metal bands represent. Here in yet another long awaited release, the band delivers yet another winner.  The Immunity Zone again finds the band in their typical great form. One thing can be said about Andromeda as compared to a lot of the other progmetal bands, they do NOT sound like Dream Theater, yet possess a similar level of talent at each individual instrument, they have a very original sounding vocalist with great range and power, and they also write very good material.

This cd represents the bands introduction to a new member in bassist - Fabian Gustavsson, who adds a very prominent sound to the band, he has a unique sound, and lends well to the overall Andromeda vibe.  I like how they included him into the bands sound by giving him some extra space.  Lyrically this band requires that you follow along with them in writing to get the details as the depth and tecnicality in the music can be a bit distracting, but get the lyric sheet out and follow along, as the content is actually quite good.

As is typical for this band, the drumming, keys and guitar work are as always, very good, which will always be the biggest reasons to keep drawing me into this bands music. I can always expect to be dazzled by not only the excellent talents of the band, but I am sure to be impressed with their new inventions and arrangements that have become a signature on every cd they have done to date. I am not sure if this particular cd will be the highest on most fans of Andromeda's list of favorites, as it can be a little more difficult to digest fully, but patience and repeated listens have proven to be very rewarding for this listener.
I have been finding this cd to be growing quite nicely as time has passed since it's release.

This will prove to be a good indication of the depth of this release, as each previous Andromeda release has taken more than a few spins to really click, and once they did, well, they also proved to be the kind of recordings that stand the test of time, as each return to listens not only reveals new things, but also offers that same warm familiarity that is contagious with their music.
