Reviews

review by: MJBradyThe vixens of powerful electronic keyboard mostly instrumental progressive are back with yet another cd of steroidal affected ELPstyled music. With the exceptions of some guest bassists, Ars Nova are an all female band, and likely more unusual than any other you have ever heard. The reason being, is these ladies are playing ultra sophisticated symphonic progrock, that is full of virtuoso musicianship, as well as some heavily classical flavored compositions. The band has not one, but two great keyboardists, and both are excellent players, sharing, and/or complimenting the others playing, or dualing away as if Emerson & Wakeman were in the same room. The arrangements are not overly technical, just a subtle amount to make the music break from any monotony, the element of sophistication comes from the notation the keyboardists are able to conjure. This music reminds me some of the more recent Gerard cds, or perhaps these bands are points of references as well, bands where classical electronic keyboards dominate; Cairo, Gerard, ELP. Triumvirat, Rick Wakeman.
