TCP is a new and promising American group. "The Way" is their first album and on their first cd they are joined by 7 guest musicians. The CD's 11 tracks vary in quality, there are, however, many excellent ones.Progcat can hear influences from Phideaux, David Bowie, King Crimson, Genesis, ACT, Magic Pie and would label this a mix of prog-rock and art-rock. The kind of fragile vocals of Henry Tarnecky is very special and very good. Jack Wright (and guest Ange DiGeronimo) perform well on drums and there is fine work on keyboards and bass by Blake Tobias. The electric guitar on track 5 by guest Glenn Liljeblad is outstanding. Exiting arrangements, lots of variation and a nice blend of classic rock, art-rock and prog-rock. A track by track breakdown follows: - You can never know:
reminds me of Phideaux meets Adrian Belew. Nice song that shows creativity. Great solo guitars towards the end of this 8 minute track. - I'm me:
Another good song with nice prog-changes. Reminds of early Bowie. - Mankind:
Maybe the best track of the album? - Again i get reminded by Phideaux's excellent album "Doomsday afternoon". Here are plenty of changes and a creative arrangement where the guest musicians show their talents. - Heavy Billy:
A bit heavier progrock with nice guitars and backing synth layers.kind of King Crimsonesque. - Sheep:
Listen to the excellent guitar playing by Glenn Liljeblad! Peter Hammill and Matthew Parmenter can be heard in Tarnecky's vocals. - He's like you:
has some heavier arrangements. - Road to 2012:
Nice orchestral start to this instrumental track which shows great musicianship. May remind of Group 87's first album. - Hypatia:
Early Bowie-like vocals accompanied by interesting and creative arrangements. - She:
Also and interesting song with creative arrangements that accompany early Bowie-like vocals.
- The Way:
Has it's moments, but is a weaker track as it lacks the creative melodic changes and has a kind of flat vocal. Some nice flute parts, though. - Liberate me:
This is an excellent instrumental track. Outstanding solo guitar playing. Again I get reminded of Phideaux -a big compliment to TCP.
All in all an Excellent Debut Album that should be checked out. These guys have a bright future!
