Expedition Delta eponymous CD is a pop rock sounding like progressive metal album. By that amalgam I mean that the overall sound may reach a wide audience of rock fans with its harmonies and melodic qualities, far from the black side of the metal divide. Srdjan Brankovic has united around him quite a group of fine musicians: Gary Wehrkamp guitars (Shadow Gallery), Andrea De Paoli keys (Labyrinth), Richard Andersson keys (Time Requiem), Erik Norlander keys (Rocket Scientists), Joost van den Broek keys (Sfter Forever), Sabine Edelsbacher superb voice (Edenbridge), Torsten Roehre keys (Silent Force), Santiago Dobles guitars (Aghora), and many more.
The guitars in particular are in shredder's mode on most of the tracks. Some compositions are interesting and true to the metal spirit, but with hints of complexities that made them reach beyond simple metal rock. At the same time, some tracks are sufficiently melodic to be played on commercial radio and the singing of Nikola Mijic, Sabine Edelsbacher, Irina Kapetanovic and Aleksandra Jankovich is the main ingredient explaining it. At other times, they are bordering on symphonic metal in part as a result of the keys, in part in consequence of the kind of drumming used. Finally some tunes are straightforward rock. When I listen to them, bands with wide appeal like Asia, Rush, more near us Port Mahadia or even classics like Def Leppard and Iron Maiden come also to my mind.
My favourite tracks are:
Self Abstract
Into the Halls of Eternity
Flight With the Mind
Planets
Reach for the Light
It Needs A Happy End
It is a good CD I recommend to fans of easy listening and commercial metal.
