Formerly known as The Labyrinth.pl, this Polish band released this cd in 2007 under their new name - Animations. Their music on this particular cd is entirely instrumental, mainly in the progressive metal realm, and not unlike bands such as LTE, Anomaly(Neth), Freakeys, Presto, Octopus, Delta de Dirac, & Parallaxe. That is to say that these bands have musical tendencies that gravitate more towards progressive metal influences more so than the jazz fusion idiom.
The band consists of 4 strong musicians, guitar, keys, bass, and drums and each musician is a featured player that is able to carry a solo spot when called upon, but the strength of this band is that while they are good independent players, they shine especially well when playing ensemble arrangements. Some may find the music a bit on the paint by numbers variety, where riff and rhythms are assembled to create backdrops for soloing, yet the band proves that they have more to offer than that, the music can get fairly intricate and technical, showing the prowess of their talents collectively .
Guitars and keyboards play a predominant role in the bands overall sound, both as soloists and in the creation of songs, this band could easily have offered vocals and lyrics to this music, as it is not technically over the top, and has enough breathing space for both. Yet as is stands, Animations is a tight instrumental progressive metal band that has very good chops. Perhaps not in the league of musicianship as Planet X or LTE, but then again not too far off.
