I only discovered Nosound recently, this because they have just put out a new CD called Lightdark distributed by Burning Shed, and I'm a member of their mailing list. So, after sampling a few pieces, I decided to take the plunge and purchase their 2005 album Sol29 and good for me... because it's a great record.
Immediately the linkage with bands like Porcupine Tree and No Man is apparent. I would put Nosound somewhere between them, perhaps closer to mid-nineties Porcupine Tree. Blackfield's mellower material also comes to mind, lead singer Giancarlo Erra having a voice that is almost a mixture of Steven Wilson and Aviv Geffen. I am making a lot of references here, but don't be mistaken, Nosound is in no way a clone band, their material is totally original, but the moods and textures you get will be familiar with some of the material of the bands I just listed.
Sol29 is an excellent CD. Those that enjoy the bands I mentioned in this review should definitively add it to their collection. In doubt, go to the Nosound Myspace page (there is a link on this very page) a check them out. For myself, I just can't wait to hear their new one, but the bar has been set to a high level because Sol29 gets my highest recommendation indeed.
