Take pieces and bits of some of the best bands from Italy’s great Symphonic Progressive history, such as Picchio Dal Pozzo , Il Balletto di Bronzo, Banco Del Muttuo Soccorso and Premiata Forneria Marconi. Now add it with the distinctive inventiveness of (again) historical Italian Fusion bands such as Area and Arti E Mestieri. To this strange mix you must now join a good contemporary sauce with fragments of Quintorigo, Filoritmia, and later Le Orme. This strange gathering between the classics and the new currencies of Italian rich Prog School is called - Periferia Del Mondo !!

Ok, so you may well say ”humm, too much diversity here”, to which I am obliged to reply with a much more fitter ”Marvellously refreshing sound!”.

Un Milione Di Voci is really an album that one has to discover and evaluate for itself. It is one of those rare pieces where beauty is immerged in an apparently chaotic caldron of influences and apart styles. But the true catch here, and therefore the true proof of this bands brilliancy, is that the result is awesome.
Doing justice to the real gems of progressive rock, this is not one of those works that you will likely absorb and understand at first listen. It needs several spins before all its magnificence starts to come to the surface. But when you finally arrive to that state, this album simply unfolds its mysteries and roundabouts and you will undoubtedly conclude about its majesty and mastery. And all this I am stating from personal experience, for I was a real skeptic when I’d played it for the first time.

Now, and after I’ve started to solve the gigantic puzzle with which Un Milione Di Voci challenges the progger, I have classified it (and therefore Periferia Del Mondo), amongst the best contemporary Italian prog-rock acts, along with La Maschera Di Cera, Garden Wall, Universal Totem Orchestra, Deus Ex Machina,Hostsonaten and but a few others.

And as a side note, I just can’t wait to see them playing live next April, In Gouveia Art Rock 2004 !!
