RECORDING INFORMATION
Mythologic's CD is all about songwriting! Sure, you'll find all the classic ingredients for a great prog-metal album here,...thoughtful words, odd time signatures, shifting tempos, great guitar solo breaks and clear, melodic vocal lines. But in the end it is really all about the elusive craft of writing a great song. Influenced by masters of the genre like Rush and Fates Warning, Mythologic's sound is, nevertheless truly original. Sidestepping many of prog-metal's sometimes distracting cliches, this CD is a completely satisfying listen for fans looking for a more aggressive progressive approach.
Mythologic, who are set to release their first CD in Fall of 2003, are putting the finishing touches on the tracking for the debut CD. Mythologic play a complex form of progressive hard rock and combines the members of Leger de Main with Steve Matusik, the guitarist / songwriter of Andeavor.
As you'd expect, elements of both bands are prominent but the soaring, melodic vocals of Melissa Rodler are of special note here. It has been more than five years since Melissa has written lyrics or vocal lines for a project so it is a very welcome return. Her style remains true to her original vision but w ith a more mature and refined sound. Her contributions are certainly a highlight and it is good to hear her in action again.

PMM stands for Progressive Music Management, a small independent label that has been in existence since 1994, thus far the following artists have had cds released from PMM: Leger de Main, RH Factor, Andeavor, Razor Wire Shrine, Mythologic, and GRATTO.

Mythologic is the labels newest project, and as has been a common theme with all PMM cds, one thing remains constant, and that is the presence of one or both of the label's owners in Chris Rodler (guitars) and brother Brett Rodler (Drums). Both are involve extensively on this recording along with guitarist - Steve Matusik, who also appears on the Andeavor cd, and providing the vocals for Mythologic is one time Leger De Main female vocalist - Melissa Rodler(formerly Melissa Blair).

I enjoyed the most recent PMM release called Gratto - Anakin Humnus, which featured both Chris and Brett, in a very Gentle Giant/Echolyn flavored progrock cd. This cd however shows a much different side of their musical callings. For the most part, this would be best described as heavy, technical progmetal, with hints of progrock, all fronted with Melissa Rodlers' soothing vocals. The music is very technically demanding, with many complicated infrastructures, frequent changes in tempos and moods, pushing the parameters of musical sophistication. The musicianship is done at a very high level, in fact this is some of the best drumming I have heard Brett Rodler do on any of the recordings I have heard, and non of which were ever second rate performances.

Steve Matusik proves to be a formidable guitarist on this cd, his presence offers a more polished, and professional approach to the bands music, he and Chris Rodler share the guitar duties, with Matusik taking the leads and melodic phrasings. No doubt this is a cd that fans of technically advanced progmetal music will enjoy, as they display cold and calculated instrumentations that rival that of bands like Power of Omens, Altura or Sieges Even. I like the idea of the female vocals involved with the music, typically bands with this level of complexity will feature male vocals, but this offers a nice change as well as a nod towards originality.

The disc contains seven songs, and it is one of those that seems to end all to soon, but the nice thing about the music is that you will need to revisit it often in order to fully digest it's perplexing arrangements. Progmetal fans may not have been anticipating a top contender for 2003 coming from this relatively small independant, but fans of the genre should definetly be giving this cd serious consideration, and I also believe that with Melissa Rodlers' voice that progrockers will find a lot to like about Mythologic.
