This is a 3 song demo from a young Dutch band that is playing a solid variety of power metal. I carefully use the term progressive metal with reservations, as I really feel the genre gets a bit too watered down when bands like Picture of the Moon might use the genre to describe their music. This music is straight power metal with some variations, yet not nearly the elements that progressive music requires to make it what it is generally accepted for. For progressive metal fans, the music should provide enough complexity, virtuoso musicianship, moods and other unique intricasies that are unique to the genre, in the case of Picture of the Moon, they play a modern power metal style that is heavy, pounding and steady.
The band is easy to enjoy, as they are good at what they do, and the recording quality is solid, something this music really requires to impact the listener. The group has a lot of potential for fans of power metal music, not too angry sounding, but they do mix some growls with clean vocals, there are some nice guitar solos, and some subtle keyboards in the backdrop for effect. Overall, this band could make an impact in the power metal genre, if they can get a full length cd out there, and also get the attention of the fans that seemingly are inundated with so many other bands similar to them.
