Every year seems to bring the expected and anticipated cd releases, yet for me, sometimes the surprise of a promising new band is even more rewarding to hear. As is the case for this young progressive band from Finland. When I say young, every member's birth date is on or after 1982, and in hearing these guys play, I am both excited and eager for what the future of progressive music has to offer. As Scenery Channel, these young musicians showcase the obvious influences of the better known progressive metal bands of recent years, and the results are an exceptional debut cd full of well crafted songs, and impressive displays of individual instrumental prowess.

Often times, new bands come out of the gates with a need for improvement on many or a few areas, not the case here, this band is poised with a great skill level musicianship wise, and they are also very determined composers, taking each song on an adventure through the very components that have made the progressive metal genre such an attraction to it's most devoted fans. They also are blessed with a strong vocalist, one that fits the bands' personality perfectly. I have to say, that each year that passes, I get a bit dismayed at the fact that some of the great second tier bands coming from this genre never really get a chance to follow up on promising debuts, only to become a name in the history of progressive metal books. I can only hope a band with the skills and well rounded compositional sense that Scenery Channel posesses, can continue to develope and release new material in the near future.

Any fan of the best progressive metal has to offer, should eagerly and confidently track this cd down, this band makes no arguement as to what kind of music they are playing, you will not confuse yourself with the power (ahem) progressive bands that have inundated the market, in the guise of progressive metal bands. This band has all the right moves and ingredients to please this genres most discerning fans. I guess the idea that these guys are in their young twenties makes me optimistic that as good as they sound on this cd, they they will only get better by virtue of the dedication they show as musicians already, they have the future wide open.
