I was first in contact with Man On Fire's music with their previous album The Undefined Design, that I had enjoyed quite a lot (see my review of that album). Two years later Man On Fire are back with a new CD: Habitat and if you have enjoyed their previous, you should go crazy for this one.Habitat is a big step forward for Man On Fire . Completely gone are the Peter Gabriel and Pop influences. Even though the music on Habitat is still more accessible than what many Prog bands put out, it is now right in there with the outputs of groups like IQ, Pallas... have been giving us lately.
Hodges-Sands-Sindon do a great job on their respective instruments, but I must admit that David Ragsdale's (Kansas) violin and Andrian Belew's (King Crimson) incredible guitar playing add a special flavour to this very good music. When reviewing The Undefined Design I had some slight reservations about Jeff Hodges vocals. On Habitat, I feel he has matured as a singer and now his voice blends very well with the music.
Fans of IQ, Pallas and of Neo Prog in general have not been served many excellent albums in recent years. Habitat by Man On Fire is highly recommended to those who have been needing an extra dose of good Neo lately.
